Compliance and Management of the Pandemic Relief Fund

January 12 | 1:00–2:50 PM CST | 2 CPEs | FOS: ACCG

Speaker: Jeff Arkin, Director, Strategic Issues, GAO

Melinda Miguel, PMP, CIG, Chief Inspector General, State of Florida

Cost:  $20/member, $30/non-member

REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO FIRST 30 PEOPLE!!

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress appropriated $4.8 trillion in emergency asistance for people, businesses, the health care system, and state and local governments. Government leaders had to react, plan, manage, monitor and report significant federal funds to respond to this public health emergency. Responding to such urgent matters under the circumstances of the Pandemic results in recipients and grant-making agencies risks that need to be managed to comply with all the requirements.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued eight comprehensive reports on the pandemic response and recommendations for continued improvement of the administration of the assistance. This session will start with a presentation from GAO's Strategic Issues team about compliance risks and financial managment issues observed and how they have been working with State and local governments to address these important matters. The session will continue with speakers from States that are charged with the planning and administration of these funds. The session will discuss techniques employed to address issues, mitigation of risks, discussion of compliance requirements, appropriate uses of the funds, compliance with reporting requirements, and managment of inexperienced recipients of federal grants.

At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify key issues that COVID-19 Relief Funds present to recipients of those funds.
  • Apply techniques used by Governmental officials to respond to the emergency, comply with the requirements and to use future funds to recover from the Pandemic.
  • Explain and recognize the compliance requirements and how to address those requirements.
